  • 2016 Teamsters Local 391 Scholarships Awarded
    Updated On: Jun 182, 2016
Taylor Truesdale from North Davidson High School and Payton Moore from Wheatmore High School are this year's Local 391 Scholarship Award winners.

    Taylor Truesdale

I am graduating from North Davidson High School on June 11, 2016 with highest honors, summa cum laude, and with recognition from National Honors Society and Mu Alpha Theta. My hobbies include reading, going to the beach, and volunteering with clubs.

In the fall I will be attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to pursue a career in the medical field. I have enjoyed the last four years as a Black Knight, especially senior year shenanigans, but I look forward to becoming a Tar Heel.

I am the granddaughter of the late Jerry Truesdale of Pilot Freight, daughter of Jerry Truesdale Jr of YRC, and the niece of Billy Truesdale of Johnson Controls.

I would like to thank the Teamsters Local 391 for their support.

    Payton Moore

I am a student at Wheatmore High School and over the past four years I have maintained a GPA of 4.7 and have taken honors and Advanced Placement courses. I am 6th in my class of 189 students. My education is highly important to me, therefore I will be attending Appalachian State University in the fall in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. I was also chosen by the faculty of wheat more as a Senior Valor. This can most commonly compared to the Best-All Around award. Furthermore, I am highly involved in Cross Country and Women’s Soccer. For the past four years, I have made the Varsity team for both sports. In Cross Country, I have received the All- Conference award in both 2014 and 2015, competed at the regional level all four years, was chosen as the Women’s team captain in both 2014 and 2015, and awarded the Coach’s Award in 2014. In Soccer, I was part of the very first Conference Championship team for the Wheatmore Women’s Soccer Team in 2013. Also I am currently the lead team captain, I was awarded the Coach’s award in 2014, and have received All-Conference the past two years. I hope to be awarded All-Conference again and become Conference Champions this current season. I am also a part of many various clubs at WHS. I am currently the President of WHS Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) chapter, student body Secretary for Student Council , former Vice President for Fellowship of Christian Students, and a member of Junior Civitans, Beta Club, and National Honors Society. Over the years I have had great memories of all of the clubs i am apart of, but my most profound memory is the HOSA conference in 2015. I was part of a team of six people that competed in the North Carolina HOSA State Conference in the event of Public Service Announcement. My team was awarded first place for the state of North Carolina, and over the summer we competed in the National HOSA Conference located in Anaheim, California. I am also extremely involved in my Youth Group and have participated in mission trips over the past 7 years. These trips were located in various US cities and primarily consisted of feeding the homeless, yard work, home repairs, roofing, and home construction. Throughout my high school career, I have been extremely blessed with a support system that not only is found in my home, but also in the faculty of Wheatmore and for that I will be forever grateful.
