  • ALERT! March Membership Meetings Canceled Due to COVID-19/Coronavirus
    Updated On: Mar 76, 2020

Local 391's Executive Board voted Friday to cancel March membership meetings based on recommendations received from Governor Roy Cooper and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services on Thursday, March 12 regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, also known as coronavirus.  Governor Cooper requested all public gatherings or events of more than 100 people be cancelled or rescheduled.

"We will have more details to come in the next week on how we plan to proceed with future meetings should the pandemic require an alternative to our montly meetings," said Local 391 President Mike McGaha.  "Local 391 is committed to providing you news, information, and updates of this Union and we are working with our communications coordinator to do that should we require future cancellations."

Local 391 urges all members to take precautions relating to the coronavirus (COVID-19). The state recommends that everyone monitor the NC Department of Health and Human Services' special webpage on the situation at https://www.ncdhhs.gov/divisions/public-health/coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19-response-north-carolina

Local 391 President Mike McGaha urges Local 391 members to follow these important recommendations in the workforce:

-Do not work if you are sick.

-Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing; going to the bathroom; and before eating or preparing food. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

-Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

-Avoid close contact with people who are ill.

-Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and throw it away. If you don't have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands.

-If you feel well, it is not necessary to wear a facemask. Facemasks are most effective when used by people who are already ill to prevent them from spreading viruses and other germs.

-Should you have any problems in your workplace related to the coronavirus and staying safe, please contact your Local 391 Steward immediately.
